We are a group of ARG players who have set about the task of finding the key that will unlock the 13th Labour - part of Perplex City.
Perplex City, Michael Smith's revolutionary Alternate Reality Game (ARG), needs you (or at least your computers)! A combination of puzzle cards, storytelling, and live events, the game has thrown some incredibly complex tasks at the players - including 13th Labour. This high-scoring card requires the decoding of an RC5-encrypted plaintext which, to quote Smith, "would take about 30,000 computers running in tandem several months to solve". Code-minded players have created a client, compatible with Windows, OS X, and Linux, to attack this task - and are seeking people to run this software on their computers.
The software, available at requires the .NET framework to run, which is available as a freedownload for XP users and via the Mono Project for OS X and Linux. Users can configure how much of their computer's power they want to dedicate to the task via a simple configuration file. The client requires an internet connection to upload completed work units to a central server.
